The course is open but not limited to cookstove manufacturers, designers, bio-energy technicians, engineers, and anyone seeking to gain an understanding of cookstove design.
Ten day of comprehensive, practical skilling on the fundamentals of cookstove testing.
About the course
Stoves are symbolic appliances that represent human capital development but with significant impact on the agriculture and energy sector. From hereto fore, though there has been tremendous progression in stoves development, most of the well-known development paths were informed by traditional cooking practices. Currently, climate change has had a remarkable influence on the designer chapter of most technologies and stoves are no exception. As such, this course is designed to equip designers with the necessary skills to combine climate thinking, and technical performance to yield high quality, user friendly, safe, and affordable cookstoves.
What people will learn?
The stove design course shall adopt a learn-by-doing training pedagogy where trainees will be introduced to the theoretic fundamentals of design with special leaning to cookstoves. This will then be followed by the introduction to basic manufacturing practices and hand-on stove development projects. It is worth noting that stoves design is a broad topic including a wide variety of stove types classified by fuel such as charcoal, fuelwood, ethanol, LPG, and electricity. As such, this course shall comprise three modules for charcoal, wood fuel, and ethanol stoves.
Course outline
This course outline shall be split into five sections to cater to needs of three categories of learners, novices, intermediates, and advanced learners.
Module 1- Theories of design and stove development
Module 2- Design of charcoal stoves
Module 3- Design of fuel wood stoves
Module 4- Design of ethanol stoves
Module 5- Design of forced draft stoves
Who should attend the course?
This course is intended for both novice and non-novice learners. However, novice learners are advised to attend the first modules before upgrading to intermediate and advanced design courses.
